Market Report

March 2021

Expert analysis on the transportation market

As the country rebounded from the severe weather in mid-February, we haven’t seen any loosening in the trucking markets as capacity remains tight and rates remain elevated. There has been some significant weather in the Southeast and we are now seeing additional weather-related issues from Tennessee to Louisiana. We are watching these closely. The international ocean freight market continues to take a beating. Vessels are anchored outside of Los Angeles/Long Beach, Oakland, and Savannah. The MSC Ever Given ran aground in the Suez Canal, completely blocking all traffic-this will impact every trade lane to some degree. Fuel costs continue to rise-not a great sign as we march towards the summer months where fuel costs typically rise as it is.

What’s new this month?

  • We added a slide dedicated to Reefer Volumes and Rejection rates.
  • Additional information around the MSC Ever Given.
  • Information around the Transatlantic ocean trade.
  • More details around fuel costs as we layered in the historical price of crude oil.
